New art has filled the Mono Lake Committee gallery in a show called Confluence: Etchings & Paintings of the Sierra, which will be on display through July.

Serenity fills the space between Erika Perloff’s plein air pastel paintings of Eastern Sierra landscapes and Stephanie Martin’s avifauna etchings. The etchings are interspersed amongst the pastel paintings just as birds are often found in the wild—here and there, nestled amongst trees or shorelines or on mountainsides. There is a very organic feel to the gallery show that awakens the mind to themes of conservation, stewardship, and tenderness towards wild places.
Erika and Stephanie are longtime friends who have found themselves immersed in conversations about how to depict columns of light and shadows, how to capture the texture of a feather, or how to show movement of foliage. They have many shared memories of the Eastern Sierra, yet their unique portrayals of the natural world are juxtaposed on the gallery walls.
As with all the shows in the Mono Lake Committee gallery, a portion of pieces that are sold will help fund the Committee’s work.
All are warmly invited to celebrate the gallery show during the weekend of the Mono Basin Bird Chautauqua at a reception on Saturday, June 21, 2025, 4:00–6:00pm. Wine, cheese, and light snacks will be served. Come enjoy the paintings and etchings, meet the artists, and celebrate a shared love for the Mono Basin.
