Tioga Pass has just closed again because of the predictions for snow tonight and into tomorrow. It has been raining on and off all day here in Lee Vining, with fairly cool temperatures, so we’re not surprised to see the pass close. We’re having an unseasonably cool and rainy May this year, so Tioga Pass will likely close and reopen several more times depending on the weather. Remember to check road conditions before you travel!
Is there a record of the number of closed/open times for the road in a month? Normal years, we have it open, and stay that way. Maybe a day due to a passing storm. But this “flip-flop” frequency?!
Personally, I’ll take the unseasonably nature of the weather we’re having. I’d rather have moist and cool than hot and dry. That’s certainly coming…we all know it. I’ll take a rain/snow squall a week (or more often) through the summer.
