Water Conservation on Large Landscape Sites

2004 NEWS: LADWP's Water Conservation staff completed a pilot water conservation program targeting water use on large landscapes, the results of which have been eagerly anticipated by water agencies throughout California. Prior pilot programs have targeted single-family sites. The pilot project was comprised of the installation, monitoring, and analysis of two types of weather sensitive irrigation control technology at 25 sites (83 acres) including parks/commercial sites/homeowners associations over a period of two and a half years. The analysis found that significant water savings potential exists in typical large landscape sites, and that weather sensitive irrigation controllers reduce consumption by as much as 28 percent. These results will be used in the development of an incentive program to promote landscape water-use efficiency.
