DMC-CBO (mostly Asian
American Drug Abuse Program--AADAP) water
conservation float at the Doo Dah Parade in Pasadena the
Sunday before
Thanksgiving, 1998. This float was so successful, and
hilarious, that they were
asked to be in a Christmas Parade
in Wilmington on Sunday Dec. 13.
The connection between Mono Lake and Los
Angeles necessitates intelligent water use in southern
California. The Ultra-Low Flush Toilet Distribution
Program in Los Angeles allowed Los Angeles residents an
opportunity to receive free low-flush toilets which help them conserve
water and money while they help protect Mono Lake by limiting their
water consumption.
This program
was discontinued after
fully saturating the single-family residential market--an incredible
success! Now water conservation is part of the city's
infrastructure!

The program was sponsored by the
Metropolitan Water District and
the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.
The Ultra Low-Flush Toilet
Program distributed FREE 1.6 gallon toilets to customers
of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (DWP).
Community Based Organizations in Los Angeles handled the
actual distribution of toilets to DWP customers
throughout the inner city of Los Angeles.
