For Immediate Release

Wilson's phalaropes are beginning to arrive at Mono Lake and on June 28th and 29th so will bird experts from around the State. While the phalaropes begin to fill up on brine shrimp and alkali flies, bird specialists will attend the annual California Partners in Flight meeting hosted by the Mono Lake Committee and Point Reyes Bird Observatory. The conference - meetings, presentations, and workshops - will be held Thursday and Friday, June 28-29 from 8:30-5:00 at the U.S. Forest Service Visitor Center in Lee Vining. And Thursday through Sunday, people will be able to participate in bird walks, bird census work, and riparian songbird mist netting demonstrations.

This annual California Partners in Flight meeting is a way for agency staff and bird conservation organizations to share current information and to discuss local, state, and national issues and programs. Representatives from the BLM, California Dept. of Fish and Game, U.S. Forest Service, Eastern Sierra Audubon, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, and Los Angeles Department of Water and Power will present topics such as Coniferous Forest Bird Conservation Plan, Eastern Sierra Bird Trail Project, Lower Owens River Project, Important Bird Areas, Wilderness Management Issues, and updates on restoration in the Mono Basin. On Friday, the Riparian Habitat Joint Venture will lead the first in a series of bioregional workshops focusing on the implementation of the Riparian Bird Conservation Plan.

The registration fee is $60 (includes breakfast and lunch both days and a reception at the Mono Inn Thursday night) or $35 for one day only. Register at 8:00 each morning at the Forest Service Visitor Center. View complete conference information at www.prbo.org/CPIF/Meetings/CalPIFMono.htm. And if you have any questions, please contact Lisa Cutting at the Mono Lake Committee at (760) 647-6595. We look forward to seeing you there!
