For Immediate Release

Spring is a great time to birdwatch. Birds’ plumage is generally brighter in the breeding season, and bird songs more varied. In addition, migrant birds can be observed as they pause in Mono County’s diverse habitats on their travels north.

At Mono Lake, County Park is an excellent place to see a wide variety of birds. The area features a small creek, numerous mature trees, dry and wet meadow, marsh, and shore habitat, each of which is used by different birds.

The Mono Lake Tufa State Reserve and the Mono Lake Committee are jointly offering two bird-watching tours at Mono Lake. The public is invited to join a naturalist on these two-hour walks. Tours are offered every week on Friday and Sunday at 8 a.m. at County Park, which is located five miles north of Lee Vining, just off Highway 395. Participants should bring binoculars.
