David Winkler was the first
scientist
to sound the alarm about the looming land
bridge between Mono Lake’s shoreline
and Negit Island, the main nesting site
for
the California Gulls at Mono Lake. His
concerns resulted in the temporary solution
of blasting a moat between the shore and
Negit Island. He is shown here weighing a
gull chick as a part of the scientific research.
