What's wrong with this picture?
The signs say this 120-acre parcel of land on Mono
Lake's west shore is for sale--but it is not! In a
strange twist to the long effort to protect this scenic wildlife parcel, a
local realtor posted five "For Sale"
signs on July 2nd, apparently on behalf of a
past owner who has no title to the land. This prior owner
had planned a subdivision and development in violation of the protections
that surround Mono Lake,
but instead sold it to the current owner, Mammoth Mountain. Mammoth plans
to transfer it to the
Forest Service for permanent protection and notified the realtor to remove
the signs.
Update: On July 13, Mammoth Mountain removed the
signs from its property and returned them to
the realtor. The reason for the realtor posting the signs remains unclear.
