Tioga Pass entrance station from the east, 5/23/06. The snow
is about 5 feet deep. Last
year the pass opened on June 24, but this year the snow is deeper and the road
is likely
to open later. Click here for a
plowing update.

Mt. Dana as seen from Tioga Pass. Note the large cornices and
recent avalanches.

The Warren Bench weather station, at 8,900', called "Lee
Vining Hill". It was installed last
fall by Caltrans and used during the winter for avalanche forecasting.
Winds over 170 mph were recorded here in January.

On May 28th, Committee staff and volunteers planted 50
Jeffrey pine seedlings along Rush Creek.
From left to right are Tony, Greg, Sally, Elicia, Sheryl, and Megan.

The seedlings need to be watered throughout the summer. If
you want to help, contact Greg

This year, Grant Lake Reservoir on Rush Creek is spilling for
the first time since 2000. The
snowmelt
runoff is expected to be near 150% of average this year, causing Mono Lake to
rise 2 feet.
