Mono Lake Committee
Community Service

The Mono Lake Committee believes in environmental stewardship, including stewardship of our local Mono County community. Committee staff frequently donate time and expertise to make our community a better place. We also donate the amount of our property tax exemption to Mono County. Here are a few local community programs that Committee staff have supported in recent years:

  • Lee Vining town clean-up
  • Adopt-A-Highway clean-up
  • Adopt-A-Stream clean-up
  • Lee Vining Creek Trail construction, maintenance, and clean-up
  • Non-native plant removal
  • Wildlife rescue
  • Get out the vote
  • Lee Vining & June Lake Volunteer Fire Departments & volunteer EMTs
  • Lee Vining Chamber of Commerce participation
  • Local event participation
  • Lee Vining Library volunteering
  • Team sport coaching
  • After-school tutoring
  • Lee Vining Elementary School garden project
  • Computer and webpage technical assistance
  • Serving as Board members of various local and regional service organizations
  • NOAA Cooperative Weather Observer

The Mono Lake Committee is a non-profit citizens’ group dedicated to:

Protecting and restoring the Mono Basin ecosystem;
Educating the public about Mono Lake and the impacts on the environment of excessive water use; and
Promoting cooperative solutions that protect Mono Lake and meet real water needs without transferring environmental problems to other areas.
