It's been an exciting week for Osprey chicks, as they are learning to fly. On Saturday, Gary Nelson and I rescued a juvenile from a failed fledge attempt. Poor little (big!) guy was exhausted from attempting to swim in salty Mono Lake. He's back on the nest now and flying! His (or her) sibling also had a run-in with Mono's waters on Sunday but it too is back on the nest and practicing his flying technique. Today, I was called to investigate a report of a bald eagle chick on the ground at Gull Lake. Turned out it was a fledgling osprey. It was uninjured and resting in a shady, inconspicuous area by the water, and seems like it'll be fine. What a few days for me and the osprey!
