At least 10 thousand Phalaropes were swarming through clouds of Alkali Flies along the north shore this afternoon, in that bay that stretches from Bridgeport Tufa to Black Point. At least two were Red-necked, but the vast majority are molting female Wilson's. How sad that they're already shedding their love stripes in favor of dull gray. Also a few thousand Eared Grebes lurking a short way off shore, one of which was pure white. And the Foxtail Barley down by the lakeshore is in full crazy gorgeousness right now. There is a meadow bigger than an acre out at Bridgeport Tufa right now...you can walk slowly around in it brushing their softness and smiling.
