Great news--Nicely's replaced their dumpsters with bearproof ones today! This should reduce the amount of nighttime bear traffic in the neighborhood (and indeed, daytime--yesterday morning a bear ran between the Mono Lake Committee buildings and across the highway).
In case you haven't had a chance to see these magnificent creatures yet, they probably will come around a night or two more before they realize the easy pickings are gone. Last night I had one in my driveway about 8:45 pm--between then and midnight have been generally good times to watch. I've seen bears in Bear Alley (the alley behind Nicely's and the Mono Lake Committee) every night since October 15th. Fun to watch (and scary at times), but I wish they weren't in town.
